Audio Mood Boards: Blue
Crafting creatively intentional playlists
I love music!
Nuff said.
I truly see music as a creative expression. Music is one of the best unifiers, story tellers, and platforms, personal and intimate to every ear it touches. Music has a way to captivate not only our ears but our minds, our memories, our movements, our emotions, our space, our cultures–everything.
Music, to me, is an essential tool of communication. Beyond lyrics, I see sound as one of the best narrative devices for how it can evoke such specific feelings.
As a graphic designer, I’m constantly searching for inspiration and curating mood boards. Mood boards help me to visually express my ideas to others. Good mood boards have a way of capturing the colors, textures, elements, environments, and settings that provide a well rounded understanding of a brand, a project, an experience, and an idea.
Popular examples of mood boards are often monochromatic or tonal–unifying a variety of elements under one color, tone, hue.
What if we took a single hue, theme, or element to unify a variety of music under?
Yea, duhhh, it’s called a playlist! Nothing new.
But what if we took it a step further? What if we simply took 1 word and curated different sounds to flow together.
What if we made an audio mood board?…
This is my process:
Step 1:
Lock in on a word, in this case Blue.
Step 2:
Find songs that include this word in the title.
Step 3:
Find the right sequence for these songs to flow
Step 4:
Create intentional cover art to bring it all together

I present to you: Blue
This is my process. Of course, I could’ve took it a step further to not just choose songs with the title blue in it. I could have added songs that simple use that term, or the feelings associated with the color’s connotations, or sounds that evoke a similar “audible hue.” All possibilities, but again this is MY process.
What will you do?
The adventure with this is how widespread the results will be with the songs, genres, and artists you come across.
In the end, you create something new. Music as Mood board.
Thank you!
